Cashmere MCP Tools

Once you've connected Cashmere to Claude or ChatGPT, your MCP client will discover the full set of Cashmere tools automatically — each tool's name, description, parameters, and return shape are advertised by the MCP server itself. You don't need to memorize them.

This page is a usage companion: when to reach for each tool, and example prompts you can issue in any MCP client to get good results.

Search Publications

Best for exploring a topic across everything you're licensed for when you don't already know which source contains the answer.

  • "Search my Cashmere content for explanations of 'oxidative stress' and show the top results."
  • "Find relevant sections discussing 'systems thinking' across all my licensed publications."
  • "Locate any mentions of 'cognitive load theory' in my library."

List Publications

Best for browsing your library, confirming access to a specific title, or scoping out sources before research.

  • "List all publications available to me through Cashmere."
  • "Show me my publications sorted by publication date."
  • "Which leadership or management books do I have in my library?"

Get Publication

Best when you already know the publication and want its structure — chapter list, edition details, or creator metadata — before drilling in.

  • "Show me the table of contents for Thinking, Fast and Slow from my Cashmere library."
  • "Give me metadata for the publication titled Deep Work."
  • "What chapters are included in this publication [provide title]?"

List Collections

Best for exploring content by publisher, subject area, or license bundle, or for comparing what's available to your team.

  • "List all collections available in my Cashmere account."
  • "Show me the description and publication count for the Science & Medicine collection."
  • "Which collections do I have from [Publisher Name]?"

Get Collection

Best when you've identified a collection and want to confirm what's inside before searching or summarizing within it.

  • "Give me details about the Foundational Business Skills collection."
  • "What's included in the Modern Psychology collection?"
  • "How many publications are part of the Economics collection?"

Get Usage Report Summary

Best for quick consumption checks — how much content has been accessed, by which API key, or under which external ID — for reporting, compliance, or internal KPIs.

  • "Show me a usage summary of my Cashmere content this quarter."
  • "How much of my licensed material has been accessed in the past 30 days?"
  • "Give me an overview of usage for external ID [XYZ]."

Tips for Better Results

  • Start with List Publications or List Collections so the model has the right titles and IDs in context before you ask a deeper question.
  • Use Search Publications for broad research questions; name specific titles when you want tighter, source-constrained answers.
  • Mention "Cashmere" explicitly in your prompt to nudge the client to invoke the tools instead of answering from general knowledge.
