Setting up SFTP content transfer for your publisher account

Updated September 3, 2026

How to connect via SFTP to transfer content to Cashmere — use Cashmere's SFTP server or bring your own.

Setting up SFTP content transfer for your publisher account

Cashmere supports SFTP as a content transfer method for publishers. You can use Cashmere's own SFTP server, or connect your existing SFTP server — whichever works best for your setup.

Prerequisite: Your account must be approved as a publisher account before SFTP transfer is available. Once approved, the SFTP configuration page will be accessible at cashmere.io/publishers/sftp-ingest.

Overview

  • Two modes: use Cashmere's hosted SFTP server, or connect your own.
  • Self-service setup: the configuration page walks you through whichever option you choose.
  • SFTP is best suited for large volumes (500+ files) or structured content packages (e.g. JATS XML + PDF pairs, ePub + ONIX bundles). For smaller batches, drag-and-drop upload in the Console may be simpler.

Common Workflows

Option A — Use Cashmere's SFTP server

If you don't have your own SFTP infrastructure, Cashmere provides a hosted server with credentials generated for your account.

  1. Log in to the Cashmere Console and ensure your account is approved as a publisher account.
  2. Go to cashmere.io/publishers/sftp-ingest.
  3. Select Use Cashmere's SFTP server.
  4. Your SFTP credentials (host, username, password, port) will be displayed. Copy and store them securely.
  5. Connect using your preferred SFTP client and begin transferring files.

Option B — Connect your own SFTP server

If your organization already operates an SFTP server and prefers to push files from there:

  1. Go to cashmere.io/publishers/sftp-ingest.
  2. Select Connect my own SFTP server.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to enter your server details and complete the connection.

Notes

  • If you see "Access Denied" when connecting, check that the IP address of your sending server has been whitelisted. Contact support to request a whitelist addition.
  • SFTP credentials are tied to your publisher account. If you use a shared or generic organizational email to create your account, make sure that account has been approved as a publisher account before attempting to connect.
  • For content already transferred via SFTP that does not appear in your pipeline, check the pipeline view at cashmere.io/pipeline for any failed ingestion entries.
